Kiesel Vader about to get smashed

Postby GuitarAnthony » Fri Jul 12, 2019 1:50 pm

So I bought a used Vader with the whammy bar bridge.

Guy had 10's on it so I go to change them to 9's.

I watch the video how to change strings and it looks easy enough.

Ball ends are NOT sitting in the saddle. Every time I try they pop out. I'm worn down my thumb & index fingertips winding and unwinding when I think I've got it and it pops out again.

I'm not kidding. I like the Kiesel folks but I'm ready to go Townshend on this guitar.

Sorry, old friends. Needed to rant.

Will update whatever result I end up with.

It probably doesn't , but does this video showing how to change a saddle (which includes removing and replacing a string) help?

No idea what's wrong. Gonna bring it to the GC tomorrow & look like a f'n boomer all embarrassed that I cant figure out this bridge. Maybe the tech can figure it out for me. All out if 9's since strings snapped trying to do this string change.

Smashing averted. Finally saw what the hell was going on. Stringing is now a joy.

Been playing her all day and sounds great. Was gonna switch out the pups for some Fishmans but really no need to. Lithums sounding killer. May put gold Fishmans in my old V220 Nightburl if any of you long time forum cats remember that beauty.

Seeing how I was trying to see how it caught without a flashlight I didn't see the screw that holds the tuners in was blocking the seat partially on the low E. Loosened the screw a bit and used a small screwdriver to make sure it was seated properly then did the pull the tuner out went merrily on my way.

After set up the way I like it I'm pretty happy. The bar is lower than I usually like but not like dive bombing is a need on this guitar.

I'd like to think my Kiesel Karma rose a few points as well. Guy had this on Reverb. Lowballed his initial price then said 'Eh, price isn't bad plus free shipping.' I know very well the cruelty of the Kiesel/Carvin used market. Someone had a fair price and I paid a fair price.

Hope you're enjoying it!
When I restring my CL6, I use the Allen key for the headpiece to keep the ball end secure while I tune up.

Didn't you have a bunch of V220s back a few years ago?

I had that feeling with my first real Floyd. It was on a beautiful teal CT624 and I could not get the thing to stay in tune. I had messed up the set up so bad the guitar tech recommended I stick with hardtails! I wanted to saw the thing in half! Silly humans..... :laughhard:

I did. Those and more. Sold off all but one as medical issues arose which funds were needed. Now back on my feet and rebuilding my collection (tho limiting the number of guitars this time...no one needs 60 plus guitars even if half were cheap mid 80's Ibanezes).

Welcome back and glad to see you're alive and well! A Vader is a great choice if you're looking for a does-everything guitar; it's super light and can cover every base from telecaster to lolbbqBROOOTALZ. While I haven't played a huge number of non-Kiesel guitars in the last few years, I've yet to find anything that comes anywhere close to the playability and sonic versatility of my VM8. It's just perfect.
