There are a lot of oddities in the Deep Clear gallery...

Perhaps, but it doesn't mention roasted top! :-)

There seems to be a lot of option listing errors in the GIS, especially when it comes to finishes. If I recall, my Fatboy is in the gallery and is listed as having a satin finish - not: it's gloss. Is it possible that their build documentation is that flaky? In this day and age of computerized data storage, they should have a database (with a networked or web based GUI) that contains a complete record for every guitar that is built. Type in a serial number and you get a report on every minute detail about that instrument. Simple and efficient. Sure hope they aren't using a spreadsheet or, even worse, keeping records on scraps of paper or 3x5 cards!

Edited: Heard Jeff mention that it takes their secretary a while to compile sales for the previous month. That would take all of 10 seconds if they implemented structured database reports. Enter the date (or month) and out comes a report with results sorted any way they want: by price, by model, by wood, by customer state, by day, by - you name it. The cool thing is you can also use it for sales analysis (which weekday sells the most instruments, which salesman has the highest hit record, what are the best selling options, what is the margin on each instrument, etc.). A database can also be used for inventory control, and on and on and on...

I would like to see a flamed roasted maple top.
I think that would be insanely popular. That sounds like a win win

I was serious when I mentioned it - I'm pretty sure that is what you're seeing. Normally I'd chalk it up to an umber type stain, but look at the growth rings. I'm almost certain that it is roasted.

I've noticed a lot of custom finishes and option 50s get a placeholder "clear" description.

Could be a custom one-off color.

Agreed. Definitely color on there. Looks like a beautiful deep TIGERS EYE to me.

Sad part is they do have a database. I've heard Jeff mention that their systems are outdated. I also think they make a lot of mistakes when they manually enter in the specs.

As an IT person, it makes me nuts. Seems like there are enough of us computer geeks on the BBS. Maybe we should get together an build them a new system. I'm fine with getting paid in Kiesel gift cards :-)

I'm game - been a software developer for 25 years (gawd I'm getting old). I'm not cheap, but I'd accept a few nice builds in exchange for bringing them into the 21st century.

Agreed, I've done relational db design and and development, too, and frankly there are two basic kinds of db applications, and they are irrelevant to the technology used (since the late 90's): well designed ones and poorly designed ones.
