Flying with a Vader

Postby Jalevinemd » Mon Jun 11, 2018 4:13 pm

Just took delivery of my custom Vader. I’m planning to fly with it later this month. The soft case length is clearly longer than the dimension allowed for an overhead bag. Have any of you flown with your Vaders and been told you couldn’t put it in the overhead?

Regards,

Jonathan

I haven't, but the common advice from anyone who travels with anything special is "board the plane as early as you can to make sure there's space in the overheads". The later you get on, the more filled-up the overheads get, and the more likely you'll need to gate check.

Yeah...was planning to do that. My concern also is someone trying to cram a suitcase on top of it.

Honestly, I’ve never had a problem finding a space in the overhead for my Vader. Even on “crowded” or “overbooked” flights where they were asking people to check their carry-on’s. As was said earlier though; it’s always a smart idea to try and be one of the first few in your seating zone to board the plane.

Ask the stewardess if she can put it with their coats. They have their own special place. Give her a sly wink too to grease her up.

This has worked well for me in the past too. Usually the cabin crew are quite sympathetic to musicians carrying expensive instruments who can't afford to fly anything but cattle-class.
