My DC 135 has been my main guitar for 18 years. I love Koa! I just ordered a CT624, so I’m happy to be back in the fold. Image

Did the DC135 come standard with rounded body sides for any portion of its life? I feel like, compared to the DC127, that I see way more DC135s with that body option, and even more than the "standard" chamfered DC style.

Or maybe it's just because I'm used to seeing photos of ElfDude's DC135 for so many years, it's what I just associate as the quintessential "Carvin DC135". Ha!

Amispy, I got a left handed CT624 flamed maple top, aquaburst with blackburst edges, matching headstock,
Ebony fretboard with the signature shape inlays, Beryllium pickups (black), chrome hardware, tune O matic bridge. It’s going to be gorgeous! This will be the longest 3 Months of my life!
Spudmonkey, I ordered my DC135 Koa in spring 2001. The rounded sides were not standard, but I love em’! That guitar has been rock solid for 18 years. I put an EVH Frankenstein pickup in the bridge, and it really cuts through the mix. Someday I’ll get video. It’s a real head turner, too.

As I've posted somewhere else, I think the majority of the Tasmanian is not very figured. But, it is really close in coloration and audio properties. I think, for the time being, that Tasmanian Blackwood would make great necks and bodies. African Blackwood is closer to the Ebony family in coloration - it is sometimes totally black.

Here's my Tasmanian Blackwood Webber Roundbody from 2001:

This should probably be in the koa club, but this is really wicked in terms of doing hi end upgrades on the idea of mahog body/neck and maple top for a Gibson style guitar... burl top on a koa body and neck, and just came out unbelievable:

Usually koa bodies under a figured top from Kiesel don't have much sex to them, but this is a nice, old growthy looking veiny slab and neck. Beauty. Only thing I would do is jettison the floyd. I see floyd I see headache.

Except given the cost of Burl . . . why not just give the girl what you know she REALLY wants and needs?

But, not as bad as getting ALL KOA and painting or dark stain the top . . . :wall:

[Did not see just "KOA Top" in the list anymore??]

FK - Bookmatched Flamed Koa Top $1,000.00 $500.00
UM - Burled Maple Top $1,000.00 $500.00

Still breathin' Doc . . . wait . . . yeah, still breathin' :woot:

I'm glad to hear things are going well or at least hanging steady... I'm sitting tight just about to put my last installment on my 1980 Super. I fell a little behind schedule with it because of, well.. girrrls. :laughhard:

To the best of my knowledge it was never a default option but it was offered as a free upgrade through the late 90's.

Speaking of which, I just looked up that DC135 you mentioned. Is that the actual catalog one? If so it was featured in 2001 next to my quintessential Carvin... that koa topped DC127.
