I haven't gotten the kit yet. Just planning and playing with ideas. I agree, if the body is carved from one of earth's few magical pieces of black limba then my plans are subject to change.

My kit might finally be here on the East Coast! I had a FedEx post-it on my mailbox today saying I missed a delivery. (Funny, we've been home all day so I don't think they made an effort.) The FedEx auto-attendant says they'll re-deliver on Tuesday. Getting psyched for my first NKD! I can't wait to see the chunk of Black Limba the Kiesel crew carved up for me...

Hugh...I hate that! They had the nerve to leave a note saying that my front door was obstructed....but they left it on my front door. There is literally nothing in the way that would have stopped them from delivering the cookbook, rather than writing the note and still bringing it to my front door, anyway. :wall:

This clown didn't even try. The note was left on my mailbox, at the curb. And I even shoveled the path to my door, specifically thinking that I had a Carvin on the way!

Ahem, is it done yet?

:D

Hadn't seen anything updates that you managed to wrestle the package from FedEx's sticky hands. No pressure or anything

Would you believe that FedEx pulled the same door tag stunt again??!! So I drove out and picked it up from the warehouse.

Long story short, I'm underwhelmed by the black limba so they are doing a rebuild of the body and headstock cover. I'm planning a translucent finish, and luck of the draw my body has very little character. Kieth at Kiesel was great - no problem, the company really wants me to be happy as a customer. Kudos! So it looks like this project is on 'snooze' for now...

Black limba is, of the "plain" woods, seemingly the most varied. From butterscotch and vanilla streaks with pockets of bright orange, to something that's just a little yellower and darker than mahogany and very even.

So true... and to build on this, there is variation within each piece depending on how it is cut. If the billet my body was carved from was sawed an inch higher or lower, then it might have awesome character on the top. But as it is, all you can see is some dark spots in the end grain. Western world problems, right?

As we've all seen some really nice limba, I had hopes that yours would have some nice grain. Meh. :x

It's the Kiesel curse... They've given us amazingly high expectations. I'm not complaining in any way.

Right on, man. Well, sort of a bummer but I know the fellas will take care of you with the next piece.
