The electronics are a big improvement, switching and pots works great.
I have the M22V and M22 SD sound really good with this guitar.

The phase switch gives a unique scooped sound.
The active switch gives a nice hot boost.
The single coils have a slight hum when using distortion, the middle position has no hum. clean sounds great. (added foil lining in all of the cavities.)

I would recommend the 502G module.
It requires some soldering to the circuit boards, you need a good variable setting pen and you will have to remove some wood from your guitar.

Good luck, rock on!

It's an old Lotus from the 80's. so, I did not mind taking the router to it. It was a fun project and it sounds great. This will be the beater guitar when I don't want to take a nice guitar to a shady club.
