cool. Like the grain channels poking thru the paint. Looks breathable and resonant so far. Obviously the final finish will determine the ultimate resonant quality.

Edit: that's weird. I just noticed that the board will change the normal, capitalized spelling of "K.e.w.l" to cool.

Aight. Brushing the first coat of varnish. Not the usual luthier product choice. It's actually a painter's product (my wife is an artist, acrylic painter). But I tried this out on a piece of wood and loved the outcome. It's semi-gloss with a gel-like touch to it (hard to explain).

Now, the headstock is ready for varnish. Applied water decals to both neck and body to make it very clear this is NOT a Kiesel factory product! LOL. The varnish is still wet, hence the shine.

The varnish is starting to dry, so a better idea of the final semi-gloss finish:

Bought a clear acrylic S-S-S pickguard. Got the P90 hole by roughing it out with a drill and a file. Meh, the pickguard broke when I was drilling the rout corners. I hate working with pickguards. Let's hope the position of the hole makes the p'up align with the stings. As much as you measure and calculate, it seldom ends up being perfect. I have painted the edges black to give it an interesting visual effect when done.

Of course, the blue is the protective film. It wont end up being that color. Stay tuned for the actual color combo of this pink guitar!!

Ha. Thanks. Tried to be as mindful as the original logo as possible. More of a "tribute to the mothership" than a counterfeit approach.

Neck is done.
The headstock had to be sanded and scraped a bit with an X-acto knife because the layers of paint left a little bulge around the edges when I took out the masking tape. Not a big issue, it's now nice and smooth.

However, I made a small mistake when masking the fretboard. I thought i was being extremely careful, but I missed the edge about 1mm and a line showed up when masking tape was removed. I Used 400grit paper to even out the little ridge. It's not notieable anymore, but my mind knows there is a thin stripe along the neck that did not get TungOil coverage. Dang.

The neck is looking nice, though:

You got some mad guitar-buildin' skillz! ... and one heck of a imagination. I have no idea how you came up with the game plan for this one, but It's looking real nice - congrats.

Not my aesthetic, but whole your using nontraditional methods and materials, you're clearly doing it "right".

I looove the logo! Would you be willing to share your artwork file for that?

Absolutely. I designed it in Illustrator. What artwork file you need? pdf? .ai? .psd? I can export to any of those, let me know what you need!

\\\ Here's a 300dpi jpg (i would not advise to use a jpg for printing, but it may work).

THe bridge AP11 is being replaced with a custom, handwound P90 from Benson Pickups. Sweet!

I had the idea of painting the backside of a transparent acrylic pickguard, that way color stays scratch-free and shiny. Painted all the edges black . This ended up giving the pickguard an interesting, ever-so-slightly hint of blackburst to the color (you'll see it in the reveal pics of the finished guitar)

Time to lay the copper shielding . It is included in the kit. I decided to place any leftovers on the P90 cavity.

Added solder joints to ensure contact among all pieces of shielding.

Nice to see P90's getting so much love around here. Now if only the company would follow suit. Even if just AP6's, ceramic mags or no ceramic mags. Just give us SOME form of fat single coil love without slug poles.

The theme was "newborn colors" to give pink an unexpected twist.
