Although Gibson did not show up at this year's NAMM, the guitar manufacturer did make an appearance at the CES convention in Vegas, where Total Guitar has managed to obtain photos of their brand new Modern Flying V guitar.
Announced as the "total redesign of a Flying V model," the six-string features a contoured top, "unique" finishes and the new Apex headstock, which was already showcased on the company's Semi-Hollow Modern Double Cut guitar.
The instrument is available in gold and silver, and also packs a mirror pickguard. It currently remains unknown which exact pickups are included in the mix.
The price will be $4,499, you can check out a few photos below.
In related news, Fender is also launching a new guitar model called the Meteora. You can check it out here.

It reminds me of this one from a decade or so ago. edit: Oh, and also, it looks terrible. Almost forgot to add that. With a different pickguard and without that awful truss rod cover, I could see it being...interesting. The binding and amber knobs give it a certain respectible retro feel that's sort of cool, but as is? no way.

It looks like a flying V in a Gary Larson type cartoon.

Oh god, why would anyone try to resurrect the old Jackson Roswell Rhoads? That shape has always been so hideous...

Well at least they kept a bit of the "V" design in it though it is asymmetrical. The other guitars posted above are more like a flying quarter moon
Carvin guitars: AC375, Cobalt 250, Bolt-T. Carvin amps: Legacy I w/Mesa 2X12 Rectifier speaker cab, AG100D.

It also looks like that hideous ESP George Lynch signature model from a few years back. I forget what the model name/number was....

Brutal and expensive...pass. Is it no wonder Gibson is about to go under?

I hope that doesn't happen, but I do agree that this V is insanely expensive. It's a small slab of mahogany, a metal guard, 2 knobs, a 1 piece neck set in with glue, same old zamak Tom, couple of pickups, etc. What's the theory behind the pricing up on par with a 59 reissue?
Their main line is pretty nice this year, I think they got a lot right. I like the main (non tribute) SG's, the Firebirds, most of the main line Pauls, the Explorer elite, some good stuff in there that I hope keeps them above water.
I prefer the vintage V OF COURSE. Lol.

Gibson just added a huge price hike for 2018 (again)...a new SG Standard is now $1539...that's insane. I believe a 2018 LP Standard is now over $3200...also insane.

The price of the LP Standard irks me. I'd just dip down a bit and buy a traditional or classic (although this year the Classic has P90'S rather than the 57's) or just save a little longer and get an R7-0 from the custom shop. The price of the SG doesn't bug me that much. Actually the model from the custom shop R# that I like a lot lately is the R6 LP Custom.. very unique Les Paul because of the"Alnico" aka "Staple" pickup in the neck position. It's a sublime beast.. here's the real thing: It would be my ultimate rhythm/accompaniment guitar. The small frets on a vintage item would dictate that anyhow.

Ugly and expensive. Sounds like my 1st wife.
Just kidding I have been married to the same wonderful woman for over thirty years. My one and only.
I do not like the fender. I do not like this thing. I do not like the zues. So I now know of three new models and nothing to get excited about. I also looked at Ibanez 2018 lineup and nothing jumped out at me. I doubled my instrument budget this year because I did not buy much last year. Maybe I will get a new flute or an amp.

I do like Star Trek. I don't care much for this guitar. I'm guessing they won't make many of these, which might be why the price is so high. I am hoping Gibson can keep it together, and make it through tough times.

You would not like them in a box? You would not like them on the rocks? Would you like them on a train? Would you like them when it rains? Do you like green eggs and roast? Do you like them, Texastoast?

For people that are into pointy guitars, I really don't see how this new Gibson design is a problem...other than the price of course.
Speaking of Gibson and prices...keep in mind that they also tend to hold their value - depending on the model of course - better than other brands including Kiesel.

I do not like the fender, I do not like the zuess. I might by one on a train if it was in the caboose. I will never by the vee because it is ugly you see. I would not by it anywhere on a train or even in a tree. I would not get one if they gave them away free. Gibson line up has nothing to boast. Tom Anderson just got more dough from the texastoast. They are really neat guitars as anyone can see. So I just bought drop top number three.
