Nay, nay... Gibson tobacco burst:

Image

Classic Gibson tobacco burst is three colors... Black or blackish brown, into a red brown, into the red orange body color.

Tobacco burst standard, again:

Image

Suhr tobacco burst

Occasionally you'll see stuff that looks more like a two color.. like this Nash
Image

But most of them are three color. But Carvin didn't seem to do them that way. (Every once in a while you do see a black burst against vintage yellow labeled as tobacco burst but it's rare).

Which was why I was asking. Regardless, the guitar will be cool. Looking forward to hearing your take on the M22'S!

Is this a colour blindness test? I only see two colours in those bursts, with a fade. Tobacco burst has always meant brownish black fade to warm orangey yellow to me, never the red middle thing.

Google"Tobacco burst guitar" and yes i guess it is a color blindness test... If you want to be defensive about it, sure.. Google"Tobacco Burst Guitar" and look at the image results. If you can't see that they all (with a tiny percentage exception as I already mentioned) follow a three color burst with a rusty red between the brown/black and the vintage yellow, then... Yes, you may be color blind.

https://www.google.com/search?q=tobacco ... e&ie=UTF-8

Look at my guitar with the three P90s. How many colors do you see in it? (That's classic Tobacco)

As far as I have ever seen, Carvin's Tobacco Burst has always been simply vintage yellow-ish with opaque black burst. at least in the modern DC127-esque era. The only 3- color ones I've seen were web labelling errors.

Me too. That's why I asked, also based on his inspiration picture.

Frankly, I think it's a scrambled label. I'm not claiming I understand the logic behind the labels or always bought into it.. Up until not long ago I always thought of what I'm calling Gibsons tobacco, simply a tri color burst, which needs a darker starting point to make the lighter two colors work. Kind of like Fenders three color burst which is on that vintage Hagstrom HIIN I have. (Not the super above)

Since I've gotten heavily back into Les Paul's and Hagstroms over the past year I've realized that these black outlined dark bursted Lesters with the intermediate rust colors have been called tobacco.

But even then, even though most Junior LPs that were bursted had a third color, you also got these occasionally (I believe Leslie West played one that was a two tone tobacco)

Like so

So... Anyhow. It's going to be a bitchin axe.

Not being argumentative, just conversational. I googled "Gibson Tobacco Burst" and I don't see any red in the vast majority of them, but I do, distinctly so, in your Hag. Yes, there's a reddish tint in some of the Gibsons, particularly those that have a more brown than black edge but I thought that was just the brown mixing with the yellow, like on a honeyburst, rather than a sprayed layer of red like traditional sunburst. I don't think honey has ever been 3 colours, so I thought the same counted for tobacco.

Gibson isn't consistent, as I said above. Here's a definite 2 color tobac burst:

Image

and yet.. this is tobacco burst:

Image

Slash tobacco burst:

Image

The third middle color is usually held very far from the guitar to create a wispy, hazy fog that mixes with the two colors to blend them nicely.

Probably my favorite of the classic Gibson Tobacco Bursts are the heavy-as-a-mack-truck 70's Customs with the extra binding on the body.
Like so--
Image

The kind of guitar where you say "Flame? Who needs flame!?"

Then you get that incredible 1960 Dutch burst.. who knows what Gibson would have categorized that one. Almost certainly a custom order when it was built:

This is definitely the kind of Tobacco Burst that comes to mind when I'm thinking of it.
Very cool!
Vintage Yellow over white limba w/ a burnt black edge for me - done!

As far as Kiesel goes I believe their three color version is either Classic Burst in the gallery ( I called it Vintage burst earlier)
"A classic finish that fades from vintage yellow to red to black.

or I've seen it listed as TD Classic Sunburst (on the sparkle top bass):

I'm not going to lie - every time I get an email from fedex delivery manager my heart skips a beat as I check to see the sender.

Not yet of course
Still pretty early for a rebuild. :D

Typically Kiesel only seems to ship out my guitars on Fridays.

I'm not sure if they need a new watch or just learn how to read one!

They lost my last package from kiesel.
I'm not sure they can do much worse than that!
Actually, they can do much worse! I'll just hope for the best.
