So after moving from New York to Florida and spending the past four months re-carpeting and generally re-tooling the apartment to our liking, as well as getting used to an entirely new neighborhood and environment... THIS is what my beautiful, generous wife decides I need as a combined Father's Day/anniversary gift: Carvin/Kiesel build # 5, "Fine Espresso".

After telling her how much it would cost, I got the usual response: "Order it before I change my mind."

I will admit to being more than a little inspired by gumbynotpokey’s beautiful LB70 of a few years back. This will be my first fretless.

That is going to be a stunning bass. When I read "Black Beauty", I thought it was going to be painted black. I own a few black guitars, and I'm over that phase. But this - this is rich, strong, bold. Like fine espresso or dark chocolate. The walnut and ebony should look and sound great together.

I thought the same as you Bob. I was envisioning a Gibson Black Beauty les paul. :-)

I think you're right. Mike's Icon will have the fine espresso/dark chocolate feel. I can't wait to see it.

Shipping notice on Wednesday. Right now the bass is somewhere in central Texas, on its way to southern Florida. ETA: Tuesday. Pictures once unboxed, of course.

And, BTW, good show to the Kiesel kids: despite summer NAMM, the bass will come in at the 11 1/2 week mark.
