1976-1989 DC100/DC150/DC160 double cut electric guitars

1976-1989 DC100/DC150/DC160 double cut electric guitars. It seems as yet we have had no dedicated club for these models so here we go. Post yours
My newest addition is a 1988-89 neck through model in Pearl White.

Here's a couple pics of my first electric guitar a early 80"s DC150. Purchased used in 1983 and originally all black with the pickguard.
The pickguard eventually got broken and the black face was beat up so I sanded it off and had my fathers painting contractor put a finish on the top that I eventually wore through. That's what happens when it's your only electric guitar for 13 years before upgrading.

Still my favorite shape from the Carvin historical luthiery, and pioneered so many of the most beautiful wood and switching options which we hold so dear today with the brand.

I just got an 84 DC 150 with the Kahler Pro. I want to polish it up a bit, the head stock is a little ugly. Any ideas?

No longer in the family, but Molly was a really good guitar. Only flaw was a tendency to face-dive. The Kahler was aftermarket, but period-correct, and stable as a rock. Once the strings were broken in, n o amount of abuse would make Molly go out of tune.

You Molly reminds me of something I almost dumped my Carr Amp savings on this afternoon. A gent (who I corresponded with a little today) had this up for sale on Reverb, a near spotless CM140 Stereo black beaut:

I mean like a MINT neck:

Schaller 1 pc 80's hardtail w mini tuners, graphite nut like mine which probably means he has the fab Gotoh made Carvin branded tuners of that period when they were just introduced together:

an amazing beauty:

Heelless set neck pocket like the sister 150:

Just a sweet axe.

He listed it 3 days ago at an astonishing $629... I just caught it this afternoon and he'd just sold it on fleabay. You want proof that the grass is always greener on the other side? He sold it so he could buy this cherry DC6--

A deal I would NEVER have done. But he's a nice chap and said if anything goes wrong with his deal his reach out to me. I've passed up on a few of these, but his is just so mint but for some buckle rash.

Nice guitars! I bought an '83 DC150 a few months ago. I have a Leo Quan Bada$$ bridge on it now but would love to put a Schaller 455 (not 456) on it. Here it is with my 2008 DC150.

The DC150 Molly above was a 24.75" scale, pretty sure the radius was 12". Felt like one of the SlimTaper Gibson necks, but a little slimmer.

Without question narrower than a Les Paul or Swede neck.

The profile is definitely different. Sort or a D or squashed U.

Finally found the first Carvin ad/catalog where the radius is specified: 16" by the 2nd half of 87, for the 1988 catalog:

Maybe the earlier ones had a more LP type, slightly rounder radius. Mine is pretty flat, built a la the 86 elements of the graphite nut, the C6 Carvin (Gotoh) machine heads, deleted pick guard. Since it's narrower than a standard LP, I think a rounder radius would get on my nerves via the size of my hands.. they'd probably start tripping over their own fingers. The flatness of the board keeps it doable for me.

Two excellent boards for me are: that LP Special "Exclusive" w the ebony board, and that unique profile which meets in the middle between 50's baseball bat and 60's slim, and the Hagstrom Super Swede (the less expensive MIC P90 model, which is nice and wide with a 15" radius... this versus the Hagstrom Northen which is just a basic 1959 LP (which is a nice neck but I prefer the flatter radius of the standard Hag).

The model wasn't in the 90 catalog, but by 91 and it's twilight year, 15" radius:

I don't know how big Bartek actually is, but guitars tend to look like mini toys in his hands.

They are only smaller in that they have the dual matching cutaway.
Just like a CM140 with the upper area cut out. The bodies are not large though which is good because many of them were made with maple bodies.
The weight is not bad though..
