The Zaza club

Postby texastoast » Mon Apr 29, 2013 12:38 pm

Enough of us around now a days. Thought maybe we could start our own club. I think anything close is fine with me. Does not have to be an exact clone.

Here is mine. (I need better pictures).

Here are my two Zaza inspired guitars~

They aren't exact, obviously, but both were inspired by Neil's Carvin Channel video

This was my first. I chose blue over teal; because blue is my favorite-- and ebony over maple, because I love the way MOP inlays stand out against the black. But thanks to Neil, I chose the CT6 with the Holdsworth headstock-- which at the time of my order was an option 50. I must have watched his video a thousand times before, and after ordering :D

The next one I found through Craigslist. Again, its not exact, but when I first saw this teal quilt-top, with a maple neck, and double cream pickups- I instantly thought of Neil. If it werent for that video, I'd have passed on this one due to the Floyd Rose (which I'm really enjoying now).

So even though they might not look like it, both guitars were acquired thanks to Neil's influence

Team Zaza here.....lol

Image

So I started with Neil's specs & then changed over to a Flamed top & some signature inlays.....

Neil was cool enough to chat on Facebook & had at a lot to say at NAMM too......He was the #1 factor in my Carvin guitar decision........

I never thought that a new guitar or any guitar could change my playing SO much for the better......especially after 20+ years of playing.....

I'm in awe of the guitars posted up above here too......I love them each in different ways.....Texastoast & Randy I salute you for being the epitome of everything cool & all things Za.....

Club "Z" was an awesome idea too Texastoast......

This one here is my favorite pic so far.....I just love the Flamed Fingerboard, inlays & headstock.....A++

& while this thing looks like a total beast...it SOUNDS even better!!!!!!! I can't even record with my other (cheap) guitars now......

Here's a quick little clip of my Zaza inspired CT in action......I picked this lick up form Neil's new live DVD.......Buy it NOW!!!!......It's way cool & worth every penny.....& pick up the CD "Clyde the cat" while your spending cash now too....

Great post X-Mann!

LOVE the top, the signature inlays look killer with the teal finish, and the 5-piece neck gives it that extra flair ;) And your sound clip sounds spot on- well done!

While on the topic of Neil's music & DVDs, don't forget his instructional TrueFire DVD/download50 Melodic Rock Licks.

Since I've always been more of a rhythm player I tend to neglect the soloing part of songs. What I like is that he tells you about an approach to a lick- meaning I can take those ideas and apply them to my playing. For instance, the first lesson is about adding space to a solo/lick. Space meaning slight pauses in the timing; just the way you would when speaking with someone. Then I look for ways I can incorporate that into my playing- so I'm not just learning a lick, but the idea (dare I say theory?) behind it.

Plus he's playing a sweet teal Carvin, so whats not to like

Yes.....Great tip Randy on the 50-licks DVD.......There is so much more in it & just great for guitar lovers of any style......

A lot of Zaza's lead playing is chord based at times....So there are a lot of great concepts to move from chords that you already know into arpeggios or melodic ideas for lead playing....

Let's see some Zaza DC inspired Carvins too boys and girls.....

Peace! #4

PS - Thx for the guitar comments too bud!!!!

I really like that headstock and the 2 + 4 tuner configuration on those models. I'm a bass player who has (at age 40) decided to take the plunge and attempt to learn guitar...assuming I actually develop any skills, I can perhaps see one of these in my future... :D

Just noticed this club, and man, I'm glad it finally happened! Thanks to X, I began listening to Neil Zaza just this year. His Carvin videos and approachability are great for the company, sure, but he is also a tremendous ambassador of the electric guitar. That he chooses to play Carvin instruments and promotes them as an integral part of his sound and musical vision is mind-blowing! I hope this thread gets bigger and better in the months to come.

Nice one!
