Awesome man. Glad it worked out.

I think the conclusion is that the only thing flawed is your friend's opinion

MichaelRopp wrote:Thanks to all of you for your insights here. Here's how the story ends: I bought my son a PB4, alder body/maple neck, standard passive P pickup, tung oil finish, flatwound strings. He LOVES it and is playing more than ever. I call that a win!

I have played on it a little bit, and I would have to echo most of what was said here. I can't find anything wrong, or even slightly sub-par, with the fit and finish, frets, setup, sound, playability, or anything else. It's a great bass.

Cool!

Um, wait... pics?

Even if we pretend that your friend is right, Sadowsky and U.S. Laklands are some measure of better:

you are paying triple, for that extra little bit.

To me, that isn't ever worth it. But definitely isn't worth it, for a beginner or intermediate.

3K+ guitars/basses are for experienced players who need a great instrument for work/performing/recording, know exactly what they like, need something specific about said brands, and maybe even need to be seen with said brand name on their headstocks.

This one is easy to nip in the bud. I currently own two Jackson USA Soloists, and I've owned two others in the past. I've had a Fender USA Highway One Stratocaster in the past, also.

My Carvin DC600's smoke the Fender and are as good if not better than the Jacksons.

If you're "evil" enough, you could loan the PB4 to your fried for a week.

Then see what he has to say.
