New album from The Chasm!!!!!
https://luxinframundisproductions.bandc ... in-phase-i

The most consistently great band in death metal delivers again. Going entirely instrumental was a bold move, but a logical one given that their best songs were always the instrumentals.

Pretty beautiful.. Samoan firefighters during the California wildfires, worshipping with a hymn.

I'm not much of a religious guy, but it's pretty moving.

My band got asked to play a Pantera tribute show so now I'm listening to a few Pantera songs that I have to learn to throw them in our set. I've never really liked Pantera but now I've graduated to totally hating them.

How does such a good player have such unlistenable tone? And why does the drummer's kick drum sound like typewriter keys? God, I hate this band.

Don't even get me started on the D-bag lyrics....

True, but usually I'm not in a position where I'm forced to listen to them over and over and over.....

And really, how many songs can this guy sing about how tough he is? Ugh.

They never bugged me lyrically. I can see where the production isn't for everyone (that happens with lots of music over time )
Are you guys covering this one? :laughhard:

You totally should play a set of all glam-era Pantera. You'd be giving the fans better music than they asked for, that's for sure.

We're only doing three or four Pantera songs though. The rest of the set is going to be originals.

Really enjoying the new album. In 8th grade, I convinced the DJ at my school dance that, "Oh yeah...people will tooootally dance to 'Midlife Crisis' from Angel Dust." I don't even think they played to the end of the song. :laughhard:

I adore this glorious mess of a song, the electric version of Shooting Star by Elliot Smith (posthumous after his incredibly sad and tragic death):
https://youtu.be/BN7Fez5LQgI

It's got such a strange feel, the mix is completely odd, feeling like there are two drummers panned off of the other. The guitar which sounds like a Fender or copy, is panned with a dislocated compression scheme versus the rest of the band, and yet it all somehow adds up to a cohesive whole.

It's got a haunting, lilting chorus, and a spacey sincerity to the delivery of the killer lyrics, a bitter tome to a let-down of a girl.. "You'll make the scene like you always do
Going upstream down the avenue
To f%$# some trophy boy that you'll win tonight at the bar..."

I was totally under the spell of this song when I wrote "Heart of Ashes" (which means zero in the overall scheme of the musical universe, but I'm very proud of that behemoth song). Little moments like the quick little unison squiggle of guitar/(w sped up instruments?) at 2:32 right before "Distant and cold and a sight to behold..." are just awesome.

There's a lot by him I still need to hear. My old drummer/best friend turned me on to him via some of his other, acoustic stuff, emphasizing the lyrical ability and saying he could have been a modern Bob Dylan (a sentiment I kind of agree with, his lyrics are unbelievable), and I somehow bumped into this song which turned into my favorite. I started writing and recording ASHES not long afterward so my exploration of his stuff ended.

Still need to hear more.
