Eclipse plans?

Postby Praiser » Sat Aug 19, 2017 8:39 pm

I've been an amateur astronomer for much longer than I've been a bass player.
The family and I are driving about 3.5 hours tomorrow to get into the path of totality.
The hotel rooms have been booked for months and the glasses are in hand.
None of us have ever seen a total eclipse so we're stoked!!

I cleaned and tested my 2 telescopes with filters today.
They are already loaded up, too.

How many other of you are planning on taking it in?
Big plans? Who's traveling the farthest??

Just looking for someone to geek out with me...

I don't have to go anywhere since it will be visible here. I will be working that day but we plan to go outside to watch it at least during the total eclipse part. It's kind of interesting, but I think these glasses people are selling look like a Kindergartener assembled them for an art project.

I will be stuck at my desk, in a room that has no windows, and is too hot, doing the daily grind. In my area it will only be a partial eclipse, so I see little point anyway, though it *could* give me an excuse to leave the dungeon.

I had a plan, but ditched it due to the teeming mass.

Working.

But it's moot because the whole area is cloudy.

We had rain before the eclipse, and rain after, but for about an hour it cleared up, and I got to see it!

Wow, that's amazing!

For me, the @Karlthefog twitter account (the official twitter account of the San Francisco fog) was more entertaining than what i could see of the eclipse.

https://twitter.com/karlthefog?lang=en

Karl the Fog, on twitter, wrote:You say "blocked my eclipse" and I hear "prevented you from a lifetime of eye damage"

San Francisco is way ahead of everyone on this eclipse fad. @KarlTheFog has been banishing the sun from the sky for years.

9:01am: Eclipse begins
9:02-11:14: "All I see is darker fog"
11:15: Eclipse ends
11:19: Skies clear

Nice pic Brento. Thanks for sharing.

We had heavy clouds early but as the eclipse progressed through the early partial phase, the skies cleared and we had a great view. Here's a couple of pics of the corona and a partial or 2 through my scope.
You can just make out some prominences (Solar flares) in the last pic. It's one of my favorites.
Threw in a pic of the family and my 2 scopes for grins. I made the blue scope 25 years ago.

There was only a partial eclipse in my area, and unfortunately I wasn't able to travel to where it was a complete eclipse. Excellent photos "brento" and "Praiser"!!

Praiser, those are really cool shots! I didn't have a filter for my camera, so I could only take a few pics when the sun was completely blocked.

My area was heavily overcast, and only had a partial, so I apparently did not miss much that day.

Pity, I had hoped to be blinded by the light, and revved up like a deuce (in the middle of the night).

Thanks for the kind words and for joining in the fun with me!
This board is still the best!

I'd love to see more pics if any others out there managed to get some.

Lots of folks don't seem to care much about this stuff, but I love it so thought I'd reach out.
Isn't there a cat on here that goes by Stargazer? I was hoping he'd chime in, but maybe in due time.

Later gang!!
