NGD: Carvin DC747 Vintage Yellow Metallic

Postby bcfox32 » Thu May 03, 2012 6:16 pm

I'll start with a premise that this finish is IMPOSSIBLE to accurately photograph. It is exactly everything I had hoped and even more. The finish is quite deep and dimensional. Depending on light and angle, you get a nice range from straight yellow to gold to lighter oranges. I'll try and get some better photos as time permits, but the weather this weekend is looking to be rainy. I too, these on the kitchen table with moderate light coming in through the sliding door. It was still a bit cloudy. Nonetheless, photos cometh...

Hmm... That settles it. I need a guitar (or bass) in this color...soon.

LOVE this one! Super clean and classy. I've never really wanted a solid color Carvin, but this is making me change my mind. Congrats!

 I was pretty sure I wouldn't think much of this color, even in the wild. Even on a kickass seven-string.

I was very, very wrong. That color is amazing.

I'm loving it. The shape took a little bit of adjustment to my playing since the bridge is naturally further away from the end of the body than I'm used to, but that didn't take very long at all. The split-coil sounds are far and away better than I could have imagined. I've really only had the capability on a PRS and an Ibanez S Prestige, both of which weren't too terribly Straty. I've played many other superstrats that just couldn't really do it. The C26's split very well for me, and I've even gotten some Tele twang from the B+M position once tweaked. The Labella HRS strings may be helping a bit with that brightness, as well. The bridge in full humbucker has been really easy for me to dial in with solid metal tones all across the sound spectrum. All in all, I'm completely sold on the guitar and don't really envision the honeymoon phase deteriorating. The comfort level is out of this world, as is the build quality.

I do have a question for others with DC747's with the coil split switches. Am I right in the wiring that the coil split switches work in positions 2 and 4? I notice a difference tonally when I flip the switches that really does sound like single+single vs what single+hum. I really wasn't expecting it and find it very interesting tonally.

I have been thinking the very same thing with a black pickguard and black hardware.
