NGD (used) LEFTY AE185

Postby tommyga » Sat Nov 09, 2019 2:20 pm

Got a real good deal on this Lefty AE185. Gold Hardware, NICE Binding, looks like Flamed Maple.
Have any of you guys tried to run the Acoustic side in to some kind of an Acoustic Processor/Pedal? ..maybe like a Zoom A3, or maybe a TC Play Acoustic? I want to use this guitar on my solo gigs. ,
Thank you men,
Tommy

I use the Acoustic Sim effect on my Boss GT100 and Katana to run my acoustic's piezo through. Sounds pretty good considering the Katana can be had for $199 brand new (for the 50w combo, I have the head) and the GT100 is like $250 on Reverb all day. Nice that with the GT I can run effects and stuff on a parallel path and some stereo reverb at the end.

Gang,
I just noticed the (2) pictures I tried to add didn't work. I tried to just copy/paste them from my computer. Can you tell me the correct way to do it?

You can host them somewhere and embed here or upload them as attachments on the forum (but they need to be a certain size for that).

Acoustic pup:Play acoustic/mesa rosette/out to pa.
Electric mesa mark V
The piezo/side will benefit from going through the pa if you make the effort.
You can run everything thorough a guitar amp and the piezo will give you a alternate clean but it really shines when you split them up going through the pa with a bit a processing for the piezo and running your electric signal through your git amp.
The AE185 can rip

Fellas,
I had the guitar set-up, etc about a week ago. The luthier said that with this saddle, I HAD TO have a wound "G" string, so, he put that on there. I did tell him that Carvin ships the guitar and recommends .010 gauge WITHOUT the wound G. Ge said that I would need to have a different saddle installed to use an unwound. He said the B AND G would need to be compensated. What do you guys think? I used the guitar on 2 gigs, and it seems that you can either have a D Chord OR an A or C Chord played in the first position be in tune...but NOT all of them. What do you guys say?
Thank you, my friends,
Tommy

I would start with the recommended stock strings, Elixir Nanoweb 1046E and ask your luthier to set up the guitar for those and see how it works.
You could also call Kiesel and ask for Albert and see what his opinion is.
In the end the guitar should play reasonably in tune for a hybrid electric acoustic guitar with a acoustic bridge.
For me the AE185 model shines as a light weight general all around electric guitar with a bonus acoustic voice which should work well enough to cover gigs without changing guitars every song etc.
in general I find the quality of the tones I get as follows
5th electric guitar with piezo electric strings solid or chambered
4th AE185 piezo electric strings chambered
3rd AC275 piezo acoustic strings chambered
2nd AC375 piezo true acoustic top, acoustic strings
1st acoustic guitar acoustic strings.
Sending the acoustic signal though a PA and preferably your favorite acoustic preamp helps
There’s some good conversations over the years on this board try looking up some of those also

Dbone, I will get a set of those Elixirs that you mentioned. Thank you very much, and I'll let you guys know.
I use the guitar in my solo gig in NYC. I had been using my Godin A6 ULTRA for about 4 years, but people ALWAYS ask for a bunch of songs that you REALLY can't pull off on an acoustic, you know?

Men, is this the correct bridge? I bought a set of the Elixir Strings.

dbone,
when i had it set-up (neck/action/nut, etc) 3 weeks ago right after I got the guitar...the guy said that that saddle is ONLY for a wound "G" string, and will only work with a wound "G"...and that is what he put on the guitar. The first position D, A C Chords are kinda out with each other. Do you..and the rest of you guys./..think that if I put the Elikirs with the un-wound "G"on..it's make it play in tune better?
