Wood-matched Cavity Covers?

Postby Dometalican » Tue Jun 30, 2020 1:59 pm

I've always wondered if Kiesel would have an upcharge on having the cavity cover *TRY* to match with the rest of the back of the guitar? I'd hate for that beautiful Antique Ash (for example) be covered with some other wood or straight plastic.
Rig goals:
1 A6C
2 AC375 (or AC475; 7-string preferred)
3 Carvin V3412
4 X64
5 Carvin BX1600
6 DC700C (27" scale)
7 Extended scale or Multiscale 6-string Bass
8 AM8/KVM8
9 K6CX/SCB6CX/DC6CX (26.5"/27" scale)
For fun:
10. CT73C
11. V59K/LB75

Not that I've ever heard/seen. When they do headstocks, they have a small stock of headstock veneers to pick from to find one that matches the top best, but I don't believe i've ever seen them, or herd of them, do that for the cavity covers. Normally their cavity covers aren't body woods. Puepleheart, ebony, rosewood (unless they got rid of those), zebrawood...not sure they will do ash.

I don't know if it's relevant, but they only do wood control cavity covers, not trem covers.

There's two guys who seem to do good work over on the facebook group. If you sent photos, they might be able to make something that has a similar look (linear vs curved grain lines, etc). They can also do gloss finishes (Kiesel's are not gloss...not sure if it's raw tone, or tung oil, or what) and are open to using addional woods.

Bob's custom plates:

Forbidden engravings

I'm having a TRC and control cavity cover made by Ryan of Forbidden Engravings. The TRC will coordinate with the body wood, and the control cavity will cordinate with the top.

Wow, that's pretty cool! Thanks for the reference. It's cool that Bob has plates specifically for Kiesel so clearly he likes their work. lol.
