Pawprint koa action. NGD x2

Postby dejabluguitar » Thu Apr 08, 2021 9:30 am

ordered a couple monthes apart but arrived on the sane day!

Jeff is reluctant but will do the ashtray bridge, "live" he says no, but viola here it is, the SH550 is sweet too.

Oof, that's a nice top.

Is that the Wilkinson "swivel" bridge? This is the one that talked about as the one they WOULD go with if they ever decided to make it an regular option, like a "S6A".
https://www.allparts.com/products/tb-51 ... 609b&_ss=r

I assume their reluctance is that not only do they not make a pickup that would fit it, but then they would also have to have someone provide their pickups.

I wonder if their hesitance is purely because there's no way to win on pricing. If they built in the "customer supplied pickups" charge into the bridge, people would complain that it's too expensive compared to the price of the bridge. But if there's an additional charge on TOP of the bridge selection, then people would complain that the price is a lie because there's no way to get it at that price since you have to supply your own pickup. Then combine that with the "And they don't even send you the pickup they aren't using anyway, so it's a total rip off!" outcries... :laughhard:

Speaking of pickups, which pickup(s) did you go with on the Solo?

Painted binding, or is that real binding? I can't tell if there's a forearm contour or now. And if real...what's the story on the all cream(?) binding?

A beautiful pair, BTW. I made this comment on facebook, but it's almost like the specs are switched, since you normally see "basic" specs on Teles and flashier finishes on carved-tops. :)

Scott,
Yes the swivel bridge, A high quality unit.
Perhaps the lack of Summer NAMM in Nashville curtailed his plans to expose it to more players. If he does'nt sell enough he won't make it.
In the bridge is the Duncan vintage stack. Studio ace Brent Mason uses it in his personal guitar and his signature Fender.
Twangs and/or rocks. Very cool. Does not sound humbucking but is noise free.
Neck is Mark's single. They combine very well.
Classic white painted binding with forearm delete. a classic Tstyle has no arm cut.
The SH tone is fat and smooth
Both came out very well and could'nt be more different.

Oh my gosh! They're just so beautiful and perfect! (except for lack of Bigsby ;) )
You must be so stoked! Congrats!

Wow! Those are 2 great looking guitars. This is inspiring me to order a new guitar. I would have to agree with Elf that a Bigsby on the 550 would be super cool.

That bridge is kinda what I have been waiting for before placing an order. I want a Solo with that 3-barrel bridge & pickup with a humbucker in the neck (and maybe a middle single). -EDIT- I'd also have to have the controls flipped 180 too!

Well, at least we know it's a possibility now.

mine is at least the third ashtray Solo I've seen. They now will do a P90 route, that would be a good choice in the neck.

I haven't been keeping up as much as I should. DO they offer a P90 pickup now? I think I'd still like a Holdsworth in the neck. One of my fav neck pickups!

They don't offer a P90, but have programmed a P90 route for several models, and you can send in your own P90s. Before, you'd have to settle for a humbucker-sized P90.

I's funny , in live Q&A Jeff denies any interest in doing the ashtray bridge.

You should spell it "voila", not "viola".
Just like it's "rogue", not "rouge".

Anyway, sensational Koa!

Tell me about the paw print please! Love the total package but as a dog lover that's the type of inlay that could convince my wife to let me expand the collection :)

Jeff Kiesel's boxer passed away last summer. It's a minature of his dog' paw. I also lost both my boxers in 2019. He has put it on several builds so far. the last time someone asked on the live q&a he said it was still available. You have to call.
