With a red stain and silver or gold hardware would be gorgeous and classy.

I bet they would do it as an option 50 (I mean...not really, because there would be a real option code for it...but...you know...), and at least now that they have made the plain maple top standard on the SH550, the price of entry would be lower since you are no longer automatically paying for a flamed maple top.

Yes if it was in the same neighbor hood $ as plain maple top it would be a classy looking option that's not "too" hard on the bank account. One like this with Mohogany top would look nice in my music room...

Having a hard time really capturing how hypnotic the sunsetburst is on the Koa, but here`s about the closest I`ve gotten so far:

Emerald green on black limba looks amazing. I've been suffering from severe GAS for the last couple of weeks and did a quick mock up based on this bass.
Except I want a LB.

Dang it. I'd intended to edit my original post, not repost. Apologies, all.

If 2020 were a guitar.

https://www.kieselguitars.com/guitars-in-stock/146088

Oh, what a nice looking, simple, gloss black Vader. A real "player's" guitar.

Oof, I wonder why it's so expensive, though.

Direct Price:$3,399.00
Sale Price:$3,199.00

This guitar comes with the following options:
SK - Translucent Black Stain
FK - Bookmatched Flamed Koa Top

Nah, cannot cover up KOA with anything. Kinda like walnut. Beautiful woods are made to be seen . . . in virgin form.

If I could get a guaranteed gem of black limba, I would not even cover that.

You cannot cover this . . . with anything! And when you see yours, you WILL thank me!

Or this . . .

Except that's blue sapphire, and it looks purple.... So, a definite YMMV.

Good call-out, I didn't see that follow-up. Yeah, walnut has a lot of red in it, so this makes sense that it's more purple than black limba would be. Same effect that Blue gets over mahogany, turning almost teal/green.

But, that's the while reason I created this thread 10+ years ago, to document examples of how the dark wood effect the transparent finishes. :)

It's literally one of my favorite things, watching people get upset about how trans finishes turn out over different woods because they don't understand how color works.
