NUAGD

Postby kmd09 » Wed Sep 22, 2021 5:46 pm

This just arrived today: my NUAGD. It's a 2020 Taylor 714ce. I was hesitant to call it used because it is in absolute mint condition and one would be hard pressed to tell the difference. This model has a Lutz Spruce top, Tropical Mahogany neck, Indian Rosewood sides and back, West African fret board, headstock overlay, bridge and bridge pins. The binding is Koa and the rosette is herringbone Douglas Fir. It looks, plays and sounds fantastic and couldn't be happier. I've wanted a Taylor for a while to complement my Martin D-35 and this one definitely does.

Thanks spudmunkey, it really is a stunning guitar. To bling it out a bit, I ordered a truss rod cover and capo from Thalia Capos. The TRC is made of KOA and has Taylor's 700 Series Reflections inlays. The capo looks to have an Ebony insert with the 700 Series Reflections inlay as well. Both should complement the KOA and Ebony on the guitar.

The Thalia Capos are really cool. If you have muscle memory from using other capos, it feels "backwards", and changing out the radius inserts seems a bit fiddly (and means that you may need/want multiple capos if you have multiple radii guitars around and want them to work their best). They come with a bunch of radius inserts for up to 16" radius (and a 0 radius for classical), but they do also offer high-tension sets for 12-strings, and even 20" radius insert kits available for purchase.

If you do have an immediate desire to have a couple, only get 1, then wait. They will send you emails about b-stock availability, and also if you wait long enough, they will try to invite you back to order again with a $5 or $10 coupon/gift credit. I think I only paid $48 for my last one, and their B-stock standards are higher than many other company's "1st quality" items.

Nice grab! I've always found it ironic because I grew up about an hour from the Martin factory, but once I worked in a music store with both Martins and Taylors, I just really found all of the Taylors a lot more appealing to play.

Speak of the devil. Just got an email with two Thalia "gift cards". PM me if you want to try them, and I will send the code for the one you want, but I don't know if they are transferable:
One is $10 off $45 or more
One is $25 off $95 or more
