Brand new Kiesel - Fishman bridge pickup issue [SOLVED (KINDA)]

Postby Akrythael » Sat Mar 20, 2021 4:01 pm

Hi,

I just wanted some help regarding an issue I have with a brand new Osiris I received 2 days ago.

I didn't have the opportunity to play plugged before today and I have a major issue.

Bridge pickup sounds "dead" when I'm on the first selector position, getting a very low output, so I started investigating.

I checked the wiring (taking for reference the fishman diagram on their website) and everything was connected correctly. No "loose" contacts or badly done soldering anywhere, no mass issues, no wires touching each other when they shouldn't. I checked and tested the selector, volume, tone, jack input... everything's fine.

So I removed the pickup to see if there was any issue with the wires connected to it, and it wasn't the problem either.

After taking a closer look at the pickup, I saw it had some weird "damage" marks on a side and at the bottom.

I put a string back on the guitar and tried to move things around while playing the string with the pick up on top of it to check if there was any bad contacts. For whatever reason, by doing so I managed to make it work when squeezing the pickup on the sides where the damage mark can been seen. Squeezing it harder allowed me to get it to work randomly, switching between low output, normal output or no output at all.

After taking a closer look, it seems that the pickup have been damaged before or during installation (on the pictures below, it seems that it has dropped on the floor or something and took a serious hit).

I leave in Europe and I definitely don't want to send the whole guitar back to Kiesel to solve this issue. Considering the origin of the issue with the pickup, I'd prefer getting a brand new one instead of trying to get it repaired in some way.

Thank you in advance for your help!

P.S.: Neck pickup is a killer though and the guitar is awesome

Sorry to hear that you have issues with your brand new guitar. Unfortunately, nothing we can do on the forum except tell you to contact the service department since the guitar is new and under warranty.

They'll get you taken care of. Good luck!

I've juste received the replacement pickup.

This one is working, but it also has a hit and on the face cap this time...

Sending another request to the CS, especially because I have a mass/contact failure issue when I "move" the bridge pickup, shutting the output. Sometimes I have sound, sometimes I don't. I thought it was coming from the first defective pickup, but it appears to be something else.

I checked all the wiring, soldering, switch everything's fine. I don't understand where it can come from. Nothing happens if I move the wires around. Only when moving the pickup a bit.

Anyone had something like that in the past with Fishman pickups?

That's nutty and disappointing to hear! I don't know if the issue is on Fishman or Kiesel's side to be honest. I've had two Kiesels with Fishmans installed and both have been great. I had two guitars install Fishmans aftermarket and both were solid. The one I sold with the Stef Carpenter 7 string pickups, the buyer of that guitar listed it for resale and said the neck pickup would intermittently cut out. It didn't do that when I owned it, and he didn't complain about it when he received it, but it started doing it at some point.

Good luck and hope you get a happy resolution.
