Early CT Models and Covered Kiesel Pickups

Postby elir » Thu Apr 29, 2021 6:45 am

I have a CT6 that was purchased back in 2005(?) that has the open coiled pickups. I am looking at getting a set of covered Lithiums for cheap and was wondering if they fit without modification to the current pickup routes. Thanks!

Fitment for covered pickups is only an issue late model Carvin / early Kiesel models where the pickups are direct mounted and the pickup rout is tightly shaped to the contours of the open coil design.

With a CT6 from that time, you should have your pickups mounted to a pickup ring? If yes, then you shouldn't have any issues as the pickup rings are standard size and will accommodate a covered pickup no problem.

Actually I don't think that's correct. They had small routes until the S22 pickups were released. Then all the routes were enlarged so the covered S22s could fit in them.

And I'm thinking the S22s weren't released until... 2008 maybe?

So yeah, if your CT is from 2005 those covered Lithiums might not fit without some routing of the pickup cavities. :(

My DC127 from 2000 was able to accommodate covered Fishmans just fine, and it was equipped with their pickup rings. At the time they only had the C22 and M22 pickups IIRC.

Either way, with the pickup rings, if you do have to widen the rout, it will be covered by them.
